It’s a grey and brisk October morning. The air is thick with that insufferable mist that manages to make you look as if you’ve just come back from a few hours at the Turkish baths, but instead of relaxing you got slapped round the face repeatedly by a large Turk called Ahmet. It is Thursday, and the weekend is not quite close enough to assuage the work-related existential dread that has become a permanent feature of your psyche from Monday to Friday.
But today, we’re feeling pretty good. Why? Because we’ve spent the morning feeling like we’re on an Ibiza beach thanks to rising dance-pop star Kerria’s and her latest single ‘Night Now’.
Israeli-born Kerria now resides in sunny Gibraltar, and as a result is no stranger to more temperate climates, perhaps explaining why her music conjures up such strong holiday vibes.
The track describes a scenario that is familiar to many of us. You meet someone on a night out and instantaneously forge a connection so intense that it feels as if you have known each other for years: ‘we’ve never been together but it feels like its forever’.
Perhaps it is this subject matter that mentally transports us to our previous summer getaways; it is often in the balmy, carefree evenings that such romantic connections are formed. Or perhaps it is the buoyant melodies and club beats, with a sprinkle of tropical chimes.
Either way, this is dance-pop exactly how it is meant to be: fun, upbeat, and infectiously catchy. Put it on to inject some summer fun into your dreary autumn workday.
