Huge UK rock collaboration in aid of live music crews sees release of ‘In Solitude’

A collaboration of some of UK Rock’s most celebrated names, ‘In Solitude’ is a supremely exciting and epic track, and exactly what you would expect from musicians from bands such as Cradle Of Filth, My Dying Bride, Iced Earth, Winterfylleth, Kill II This, Xentrix, Divine Chaos, Krysthla and Pythia. The instrumentation is top class and is expertly put together by University Lecturer Mark Mynett, especially considering it was all written and performed remotely:

“The drum recordings came from Jeff Singer. He plays with My Dying Bride, the Yorkshire-based band that I’ve produced, I then sent these out to eight different guitarists, who collectively returned hours and hours of riffs and different parts that I had to sift through. It was like a patchwork quilt of all the best parts to make it into something cohesive. It then went out to different male/female vocalists for vocal contributions, after which it quickly became apparent that the song needed to be quite a significant length to factor in all the different parts. We then introduced cello, keyboards and piano. Although a shorter radio edit was also created, about 300 hours of audio was condensed down to the full 12 minutes and 37 seconds version. It was fascinating to put together.”

As someone that works with so many bands and has been involved with the biggest rock festivals such as Bloodstock and Download, he knows how hard the industry has been hit by Covid, especially the technical and stagehand crews. As he says, “Bands have royalties and merchandising, but you don’t get royalties from the mixing desk.” This collaboration was created as a way to raise money for the people in this industry that have been impacted most and without whom the industry would have no chance of return. It is the hope that the track will go some way to helping pave a way back to normality for the foundational members of the music industry.
